Bourbon Pecan Pie ice cream is Ben & Jerry's new Texas treat

Ben & Jerry's is churning up a bite of Texas pride.

This summer, they asked Texans to choose a flavor of ice cream that embodies the Lone Star State -- a tough task if you ask most Texans. Ben & Jerry's "flavor guru" Eric Fredette whipped up two options: Bar-B-Que Peach (ancho peach ice cream with peaches and a barbecue caramel swirl) and Bourbon Pecan Pie (bourbon ice cream with pecans, shortbread cookie pieces and a whiskey caramel swirl).

Update: Ben & Jerry's tallied the popular votes. Bourbon Pecan Pie won.

The winning flavor will land on Texas grocery store shelves this fall. Bourbon Pecan Pie will also be sold at Scoop Shops in Plano, Highland Village and at D/FW International Airport. Check out Ben & Jerry's ice cream locator to find it.

The timing seems right on the Ben & Jerry's initiative, as beloved Texas ice cream brand Blue Bell was absent all summer after a listeria scare.

If you ask me? The Bar-B-Que Peach was just the right amount of spicy and sweet. But my colleague Robert Wilonsky said the Bourbon Pecan Pie was the way to go. Wilonsky wins.
