Uptown sprouts a new farmers market

The new Uptown Market at West Village may be small, but it has a promising lineup of vendors.

Some of the sellers include Baugh Farms -- look for heirloom tomatoes mid-May; Promise of Peace Community Garden; We Over Me Farm from Paul Quinn College; and Caliper Farm to Market. Caliper will sell early season greens and lettuces, plus onions, herbs and some sweet potatoes.

Other vendors include Steel City Pops, Cita's Salsa, Texas Toffee, Basic Foodism (sauces), Bisous Bisous Patisserie (macarons are a specialty), Gimme Emporium (baked goods) and others.

There's also a lemonade stand run by a 12-year-old called Lemon Drops. Adorable!

The market is now open, 8 a.m. to noon Saturday only. It's in West Village's "south alley," between the Magnolia and Mi Cocina.
