Plano’s first Torchy’s Tacos expected to open in late April

Plano will soon be home to a family-friendly Torchy's Tacos.

The Austin-based taco shop with a rabid following is currently under construction near W. Park Boulevard and the Dallas North Tollway, near Willow Bend mall.

Torchy's made our list of The Best in DFW: Tacos in 2014.

A spokeswoman confirms the nearly 6,000-square-foot shop will be one of the biggest in the brand. About 1,500 square feet of the restaurant will be a covered patio.

It'll be "family-friendly" because there will be a special kids 'n family area. (The spokeswoman says Torchy's tried it at an Austin branch to much success.) It will also have a kids menu.

The food will largely mirror other Torchy's Tacos locations. The Democrat, The Republican and The Independent tacos all made the cut. (That's a shredded beef barbacoa taco, a grilled jalapeño sausage taco and a fried portobello and black bean taco, respectively.) And there's still green chile queso and street corn, of course.
