Pug-O-Ween

Have you hugged a pug today? The sweet breed with the smooshy face known for being a sociable companion dog is celebrated at the 19th annual Halloween event, which raises funds for DFW Pug Rescue (the group has placed about 6,500 huggable pugs in loving homes).

Activities include a silent auction, a pug adoption parade and pug races. Wear your best Halloween costume; bonus points if your pup's costume relates to your own. Naturally, there's a costume contest.

Fall Fly Days and Car Show

Go back to a time when warbirds had personalities and cars had real muscle as the Cavanaugh Flight Museum hosts this annual festival of flights and displays. In addition to restored military aircraft, the event has games and activities for kids, Sherman tank demonstrations, aircraft tours, concessions and photo ops with aircraft not normally on display.

The event marks the return of the F4U Corsair, which was on tour this summer, and its first performance with the museum's P-40N Warhawk and P-51D Mustang in more than 12 years. If cars are your thing, you're in luck. On Saturday, check out the Pontiac Southern Nationals Car Show; on Sunday, the American Classic Car Show will celebrate customs and classics from every era.

Bonnie and Clyde Days

Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were America's first celebrity criminals, due to photos found in their hideout in Joplin, Mo., that were sent out on news wires and published widely. The couple was brought back into the spotlight by the 1967 film Bonnie & Clyde starring Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty. The famous bank robbery scene in the film was shot in Pilot Point, and the town holds this annual festival to celebrate the event and remember the outlaw couple.

Enjoy re-enactments of the bank robbery at noon and 3 p.m. and a soapbox derby, live music, dancers, a pie-eating contest, a pumpkin patch, vendors, kids' activities, a car show and a display of antique tractors throughout the day. Country singer Aaron Tippin will perform at an after-party at Jem Beverage Co.

FarmFest

What's chicken poop bingo? Well, you pick a square and wait for a chicken to grace it with, er, you know. It's one of the contests at this celebration of local agricultural heritage at Heritage Farmstead Museum, along with hog calling, rooster crowing, donkey braying, pie eating and a kids' pedal tractor pull.

You can also keep an eye out for Romulus and Remus, billed as the tallest donkeys in the world. Blacksmith demos, wagon rides and animal exhibits round out the action.
