Festivals
PRAIRIE LIGHTS This two-mile drive-through exhibit features 3
million lights. Visit the holiday village for refreshments and other
items for purchase, as well as a 10-minute holiday light show
choreographed to music (for an extra charge of $2 for adults, $1 for

CHRISTMAS IN THE SQUARE Light show at Frisco Square urban complex
is synchronized to holiday music. There will also be family activities
such as carriage rides, a snow machine, outdoor movies and a parachuting

CHRISTMAS LIGHT TOUR Airplane tours of area holiday light

FAIR PARK IN LIGHTS Dallas Park and Recreation Department
presents its annual holiday festival and tree-lighting featuring a
display of brightly lighted trees and decorations along the Esplanade at
Fair Park. Visitors can take a ride on the Texas SkyWay aerial tram.
They can also enjoy live entertainment, face painting, a snow hill,
holiday characters and photos with Santa Claus. Also available are a
miniature train ride, carriage rides and hayrides. Dec. 2 from 4 to 8
p.m. The tree-lighting ceremony will be at 6:30 p.m., preceded by a
candlelight tribute to the military. Tree display runs through Jan. 1.

MIRACLE DALLAS Victory Park celebrates the spirit of holiday
giving with this event that features an outdoor ice-skating rink, movies
on the big screens (White Christmas, Dec. 9 at

Santa. Each night, "miracles" will be granted by local charities and

HOLIDAY CIRCUS Fifth-generation circus performer Fanny Kerwich gave up the traveling
life when she married and started a family with Mark Doyle of Dallas.
But she was determined to create a circus here. Lone Star Circus, the
performing arm of her new nonprofit arts center, will present a circus
that features performers from around the world, including acrobats from
Argentina, an aerialist from Peru and a contortionist from Mongolia,
along with local clowns Slappy and Monday, and kids who have trained at

WHAT'S THERE: The buildings get twinkly during light shows set to

outside. The free light show runs nightly from 5:30 to 10 through Jan.
2. Special weekend activities with free admission are also on tap

WHAT'S THERE: Sparkling lights (1.2 million of them) illuminate

gingerbread house, magical train sets and replicas of historic Texas
buildings nestled among the Christmas trees. Free admission (parking

SPRINGPARK
WHAT'S THERE: Long admired for its elaborate displays, this
neighborhood plans to mix it up this year with something old and
something new. Expect to see longtime favorites such as Lake Shore
Drive's trains (about 30 houses on the street will have train
decorations, with rope-light tracks linking each car) and Bridle Path's
Peanuts-inspired decorations. This year's new themes include Parkrise
Court's "Caribbean Christmas," which takes Christmas to the beach with
lighted palm trees as well as polar bears and penguins decked in
sunglasses. "Don't expect to see the same old same old. We're going for
originality," says block representative Kay Davidson, who expects most
decorations in the neighborhood to be up by Dec. 14. Another new theme
is Annette Court's "International Christmas," the inspiration behind
painted signs in about a dozen yards wishing passers-by Merry Christmas
in various languages. Free.

KESSLER PARK Kessler Neighbors United, the neighborhood
association of Kessler Park, celebrates the holidays with five lighted
live oak trees in the triangular median at 1415 W. Colorado Blvd.
Several other medians throughout the area have Christmas trees, lights
and inflatables. Many neighborhood homes also are lighted. Kessler Park
is just south of Interstate 30 at Sylvan Avenue. The neighborhood
extends roughly from I-30 on the north side to Stewart Drive on the
south and from Plymouth Road on the west side to Sylvan on the east.
LIGHTED CHRISTMAS DRIVE Drive through a lighted winter wonderland
