 SEARCHING

What should I know about the site's search engine?
• A complete word is necessary to perform an accurate search.
• The search is not case-sensitive.
• Keyword searches bring up exact name matches first, then sort results into categories such as movies, restaurants, attractions, etc.

 CONTENT

Where can I find Kids & Family information?
Kids & Family content is now located in the second column of the Attractions page. Although we no longer have a separate page for Kids & Family, we continue to carry the same amount of content, including family-friendly event listings and special features such as "Parents' guide to summer" and "Family freebies."

Where can I find Sports & Recreation information?
Sports & Recreation content is now located in the third column of the Attractions page. Although we no longer have a separate page for Sports & Recreation, we continue to carry the same content, including season schedules for D-FW's professional sports teams and listings for special events such as rodeos, horseraces and more.

 MOVIES

What do your movie grades mean?
The movie grades legend is as follows:
A = Excellent
B = Good
C = Fair
D = Poor
F = Bombs away

 MUSIC

Where can I find listings for music at nightclubs?
Listings for both rock and country music nightclubs shows can be found from the Music & Nightclubs page. See the right-hand column, under "More club features."

I attended a great show Friday night, but when I tried to search for the band on your site on Saturday morning, there was no mention of the event. Why didn't you cover it?
Our site previews upcoming events. Once events have occurred, their listings automatically archive in our database and can no longer be found among our event listings. For reviews of any type of concert or show, please check the Overnight section.

 RESTAURANTS

I can't find an index or key to your restaurant star rating system. What do the star ratings mean?
If you search by cuisine, by neighborhood, or by price from the restaurants page, each resulting search page has legends or keys for both the star ratings and the price ratings at the bottom.
The star rating legend is as follows:
* * * * * = Extraordinary: Defines fine dining in the region
* * * * = Excellent: One of the finest restaurants in Dallas-Fort Worth
* * * = Very good: A destination restaurant for this type of dining
* * = Good: Commendable effort, but experience can be uneven
* = Fair: Experience is generally disappointing
No stars = Poor

Prior to March 2007, the listings used half-stars and this scale:
* * * * * = Almost flawless
* * * * = Excellent
* * * = Very good
* * = Fair to good
* = Poor

What exactly are restaurant ratings based on? For example, I've eaten at several places and found them wonderful when you've only given them 2 stars.
We assign separate ratings for food, service and atmosphere and then factor them together for an overall rating. Food is the most important element.

Five-star restaurants are easy to classify: They're nearly flawless experiences on every level, the special-occasion destinations that set the benchmark for fine dining in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and its environs.

Four-star restaurants flutter just below the five-star mark. They offer some of the best dining in the area, though generally they're slightly more casual, and you don't have to sock away quite as many bucks to fund the experience. Or, they are establishments aiming for five-star status but not quite hitting the mark.

Below four or five stars is what most restaurants earn: It's the natural arc of the bell curve. A three-star restaurant is a place where you generally get a solid meal. The food is creative and skillfully prepared, service is sharp, the prices don't make your wallet cry out in horror and the vibe feels right for the experience. Every once in a while, you may get a bum entree, or the noise level may drive you bonkers. Even so, it's a place worth a return.

A crucial point: Take the definitions of these star ratings at face value. A three-star rating is not a C grade. We really mean it to indicate "very good."

Two-star ventures are either floundering restaurants with three-star ambitions or holes in the wall worth knowing about. But a modest establishment does not automatically equate to two stars: If a barbecue shack serves ribs that make your whole body tingle, but the service is gruff and the decor little more than a shack, it still might merit three stars purely for the joy of that 'cue. The bottom line is that a two-star rating doesn't necessarily mean you should skip the restaurant.

And a restaurant might merit one star if it's a high-profile venture that is clearly not meeting its potential, or is perhaps a humbler effort that cooks a unique dish or two unusually well.

If a restaurant is designated as $$, does that mean every entrιe on the menu is between $10 and $25?
Our system cannot display a range of dollar signs, such as $ - $$. In cases where menu prices vary, we display the higher end of the range. So, a restaurant with $$ may actually have some menu items under $10, and a restaurant with $$$ may have some items under $25, and so on.

Why don't you have restaurant menus available online on your site?
We have discussed adding menus to our restaurant coverage, but because of the huge number of restaurants in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and the relative impossibility of ensuring that the menus we have posted online are current and accurate, we have decided not to pursue this at the present time.
