Steve Martin and Edie Brickell's musical 'Bright Star' headed to Broadway

NEW YORK (AP) -- The new musical "Bright Star" from Steve Martin and Oak Cliff's own Edie Brickell will light up the Great White Way this spring, starring Carmen Cusack.

Tony-winning producer Joey Parnes announced Tuesday that the show will play starting in March at a theater to be named later.

Martin and Brickell collaborated on the music, with Brickell penning the lyrics and Martin writing the story. It was inspired by their collaboration on the album Love Has Come for You. The title track from that album won a 2014 Grammy for best American roots song.

Set in the South in the 1920s and 1940s, the show is about a woman who befriends a soldier just home from World War II. The show had its premiere in San Diego in 2014 and this winter has a run at the Kennedy Center.
