Our new favorite beer is a hazy IPA from Dallas' Manhattan Project

Half-Life IPA from Manhattan Project Beer Co. is a delicious example of New England-style IPA (aka Hazy IPA).

Made in Dallas, Half-Life IPA from Manhattan Project Beer Co. is a delicious example of New England-style IPA (aka Hazy IPA). Unlike the dank West Coast IPAs, which showcase heavy hop bitterness, this one is a more balanced style.

Half-Life's hop aromas of grapefruit, blossoms and subtle pine carry over to the palate, where they meet lemon and apricot flavors and just a hint of bread. The hops character is nuanced and the mouthfeel smooth, thanks to brewing with 30 percent wheat. The wheat proteins lend a slightly hazy appearance. With an alcohol content of 6.2% ABV - in the low range for an IPA - you can feel OK about going for that second glass. Although enjoyable on its own, the beer would also pair well with fried foods, Mexican food, salads and dishes with a citrus profile, like ceviche.

Manhattan Project Beer Co. was launched in 2016 by Karl and Misty Sanford and their friend Jeremy Brodt. The trio began making beers together as hobbyists in 2010. Their first was for the Sanfords' wedding. After winning awards at numerous amateur beer competitions, they began making beer professionally. Working under a time-share arrangement at a local brewery, they produced their initial line of Manhattan Project beers, including Half-Life. The beer did well on tap, and after its release in cans last fall, Half-Life quickly became the company's best-seller. Last year, Manhattan Project Beer Co. purchased a warehouse where it hopes to establish its own brewery this summer.

Half-Life Hazy IPA is sold in six-packs of 12-ounce cans for about $10.99. It is widely available at liquor stores, specialty markets and convenience markets that have a good selection of craft beers.
