'Game of Thrones' releases series of beers to tide fans over until the final season

There may not be a new season of Game of Thrones until 2019, but HBO is hoping to keep the insanely popular TV series top of mind and on the tip of your tongue -- literally.

Brewery Ommegang announced Monday the release of a new beer inspired by Daenerys Targaryen, also known as Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, and the Unburnt. The beer aptly takes one of her more popular names, Mother of Dragons. Actually, a statement says the beer is brewed "for" Daenerys, which might explain why it's a blend of a tart and fruity Belgian kriek and a smoked porter. Because dragons breathe fire, get it?

The beer is one of four in a new Royal Reserve Collection the New York brewery is debuting this year through a partnership with HBO Licensing and Retail. Each honors one of four epic figures in the saga to take control of Westeros and rule the seven kingdoms.

Mother of Dragons, described as a mix of cherry-tart, chocolate and subtle smoke flavors, is the third and slated for release on September 28. Hand of the Queen, a barleywine, debuted in April and Queen of Seven Kingdoms, a sour blonde blend, came out in June. All are available on draft and in 750 milliliter bottles, though the first may be difficult to find since these brews are limited release. (According to Brewery Ommegang's beer finder, Dallas bar The Common Table may still have some.)

The last in series will be announced later this year.

Brewery Ommegang and HBO have a longstanding relationship, and have released many Game of Thrones-inspired beers over the years, with names such as Bend the Knee and Three-Eyed Raven. All of those recipes were also limited release.

So pick up the Royal Reserve Collection, drink and know things.
