The Flaming Lips created a beer and matching record -- then put the beer inside the vinyl

Oklahoma City's psychedelic rockers The Flaming Lips are no stranger to unusual record releases. In 1997, for example, the group released Zaireeka, an album comprised of four discs that were meant to be played simultaneously on separate audio systems.

For Record Store Day 2018, zany front man Wayne Coyne and his band mates teamed up with the ever-popular Dogfish Head Craft Brewery to create another off-the-wall release. In addition to launching its own beer called Dragons and YumYums, the Flaming Lips are also putting out a limited edition, 7-inch vinyl featuring two songs inspired by the beer.

But wait, there's more!

The band is also giving away even more limited edition vinyl records that are filled with the beer. And, yes, it actually plays.

Dallasites' chance to drop their needle on it is Saturday, April 21. The Common Table bar and restaurant in Uptown is hosting a Record Store Day party to coincide with its annual Dogfishtival, an event dedicated to Dogfish Head's beers. The bar will tap more than 20 different kegs, including one of Dragons and YumYums, described in a statement as "an intensely tropical, yet subtlety bitter pale ale" brewed with dragon fruit, yumberry, passion fruit, pear juice and black carrot juice.

The bar will raffle off one copy of the beer-filled Dragons and YumYums record between 6:30-7 p.m. that day. (Only 100 copies were made.) All you have to do is show up, register with a brewery representative and get a ticket. Hopeful music lovers must be present to win.
