Beer buzz: Try this vanilla porter with sweet potato casserole and lots of marshmallows

OHB Vanilla Porter from Oak Highlands Brewery is rich, malty and infused with whole vanilla beans.

OHB Vanilla Porter

BREWERY: Oak Highlands Brewery, Dallas

STYLE: American porter. These are dark, richly malted beers with moderate hop bitterness. They are inspired by the traditional British porters (named for the London transportation workers who were fond of the style). Many American breweries put their own twist on the porter by flavoring the brew with ingredients that complement the malty flavor.

THE PITCH: Infused with whole vanilla beans, this light- to medium-bodied porter has a prominent vanilla aroma that carries through on the palate, where it melds with chocolate and coffee notes. It's well balanced and has a smooth texture. Although it has a slight sweetness, the finish is dry and light.

FUN FACTS: On Dec. 15, the brewery will host a beer and carols event at its taproom, featuring Bella Trino's pizza and a visit from Santa. Visit oakhighlandsbrewery.com for more information.

SERVE IT/PAIR IT: At Thanksgiving, this would pair well with a marshmallow-topped sweet potato casserole. It would also pair well with s'mores made with dark chocolate, vanilla ice cream (in a float), cows' milk cheeses and smoked meats.
