D-FW's best brewery taprooms: Where to take a date, catch a concert, bring your dog and more

Editor's note: This story has been updated from its original text.

So many breweries, so little time.

Because Dallas-Fort Worth is lucky enough to have a long list of breweries within driving distance, picking one from the group can be a challenge. After exhausting research that included drinking beer, playing games and eating tasty treats at breweries around the region, we've come up with a list of beer havens with specific groups of people or events in mind.

A great date night should include easy conversation, simple entertainment and, of course, some satisfying brews. Peticolas Brewing Co., in Dallas' Design District, offers all three with a recently expanded tri-level taproom. Sit at one of the downstairs picnic tables and enjoy a soccer game on the taproom TVs, or claim a barstool on the second level at the main bar. Head to the third level for a game of pingpong or foosball. And if you're hungry, the brewery occasionally features local food vendors or food trucks for delicious snacking.

Where to bring your dog: Martin House Brewing Co.

Your beloved furry friends dream about space to run around and socialize with others. Martin House Brewing Co.'s sprawling backyard is a dog's best friend. Aside from the indoor and outdoor games, food trucks and refreshing brews, this Fort Worth dog haven has enough land to kick back with your four-legged buddies and enjoy the view of the Trinity River and downtown. Don't forget your chairs -- Martin House has limited seating, so we recommend bringing your own.

Deep Ellum Brewing Co. was designed with live music in mind. The facility's backyard has a small but adequate stage that has featured artists such as Israel Nash, Cure for Paranoia and Ishi. The added entertainment factor also makes this a great venue for a small wedding, birthday bash or if you just need a reason to party with your favorite people. Check the brewery's Facebook page for a list of upcoming acts.

Where to grab a bite plus beer: BrainDead Brewing

When was the last time you went to a brewery to get a Cuban sandwich or picadillo queso? Those are just a couple of the delectable options you'll find on BrainDead Brewing's menu. Chef David Peña is the food fanatic behind this tasty selection, which features everything from salads and sandwiches to seafood and a bacon flight. Located in Deep Ellum, the bar serves house-brewed beverages as well as others from around the region and country. For a beer-friendly pairing, we recommend the Coma Burger, which features a house-ground patty of bacon, beef and brisket, or the T.A.B.L.E. Sandwich with bacon, honey-Sriracha aioli, tomato arugula, avocado and a fried egg.

Where to bring the kids: 903 Brewers

903 Brewers in Sherman has a house-like layout with an inviting ambiance that'll make you want to sit down and stay a while. The main bar is in the "living room," complete with couches and tables for spacious seating. Outside, there are picnic-style tables that make the backyard feel more like a family reunion than a public brewery. Cozy stringed lights hang throughout the building, making this small-town destination a warm and hospitable experience.

In 2019, the brewery plans to upgrade to a new building near downtown Sherman with a brewpub, restaurant and beer garden that owners Jeremy and Natalie Roberts expect to be equally as inviting for families.

Five breweries — Community Beer Co., Noble Rey Brewing Co., Texas Ale Project, Peticolas Brewing Co. and Pegasus City Brewery — reside within two miles of each other, making the Dallas Design District an epic pub crawl waiting to happen. Although you wouldn't want to attempt this on foot (the district is near Interstate 35 and not pedestrian-friendly), this group offers a colorful range of beers and events for a night out or a day-drinking adventure for any 21-and-up group. So get your friends, your favorite koozie, a few snacks and a designated driver or taxi service ready for this all-day outing.
