Beer buzz: All Call Kölsch from Lakewood Brewing Co. honors first responders

All Call Kölsch

BREWERY: Lakewood Brewing Co., Garland.

STYLE: Kölsch; this light-to-medium-bodied style originated in Köln, Germany. It's typically a refreshing beer, with alcohol content in the 4 percent to 6 percent range; though usually not very hoppy, bitterness can vary from light to assertive.

THE PITCH: This medium-bodied kölsch is delicious and super drinkable. It's fruity, with bready malt flavors and enough bitter hops to lend a dry, refreshing quality. Though this new release is a year-round offering, it debuted just in time for warm weather, when it's a welcome addition to picnics and outdoor events.

FUN FACTS: Lakewood Brewing Co. dedicates All Call to the police and firefighters who risk their lives in response to emergencies. It was originally made for fundraisers benefiting the Guns and Hoses Foundation of North Texas, which supports families of fallen police and firefighters. In April, the brewery launched a wide release of the beer in cans; a portion of local proceeds will go to Guns and Hoses.

SERVE IT, PAIR IT: Serve chilled (about 45 F). The brewery recommends pairing it with Monterey Jack cheese, bratwurst and hot dogs. It would also go well with burgers.
