GuideLive's inaugural Brew Brawl concluded Nov. 30, and if we learned anything, it's that North Texans love craft beer.
The bracket, which put local microbreweries head-to-head in a (friendly) bracket-style tournament, accumulated more than 114,000 votes in five rounds. But today, we have our winner: Readers voted Allen's Nine Band Brewing as their favorite brewery in Dallas-Fort Worth.
Opened at the beginning of 2015, Nine Band is one of the newest addition's to the local scene, but Allen residents are proud of their local suds. When I visited this summer, patrons told me the brewery was one of their favorite bars in the city.
Owner Keith Ashley felt overwhelmed by the support from the local community.
"What tells me that our brand is a growing brand, it's touched multiple palates and they've enjoy it," he said by phone Tuesday. "It takes a team and I have a phenomenal team."
Ashley has his sights set on expansion in the coming year, with hopes of bringing his beer to international drinkers. Nine Band is also forming a nonprofit branch that will give back a portion of proceeds from the newly released Badge honey blonde ale to benefit personnel in law enforcement, fire departments and the military. (Ashley has served in all of those departments.)
To thank the those who voted for the brewery, Nine Band is throwing a party Saturday, Dec. 5 with $2 beers all day plus live music and a food truck. GuideLive would also like to everyone who participated in the DFW Brew Brawl. Take a look at how the results panned out below, and let us know your thoughts on Twitter.
