Drink in NTX Beer Week with these beers brewed specially for the occasion

NTX Beer Week is upon us, and it's time to start drinking like it. Several breweries, locally and nationally, have brewed specialty beers for the occasion. Here are some you don't want to mis.

DFW: A Collaboration of Two Breweries

True to the name, this beer comes by way of two North Texas establishments, Lakewood Brewing Co. and Rahr and Sons Brewing Co. For their second partnership release, the breweries created a Baltic porter fermented with pureed cherries and then aged on rum-soaked oak chucks. At 9.5 percent ABV, depend on it being big, bold, malty and boozy. (See more tasting notes here.)

This specialty beer hits local taps courtesy of Southern Tier Brewing Co. in Lakewood, N.Y. This is the second year it's brewed something special for NTX Beer Week, and this time it's a pecan brown ale. Brewers promise a warm malty mouthfeel with notes of caramel that finish this 7.8 percent ABV brew.

Mystic Rapture

Rabbit Hole Brewing took its award-winning brown ale and infused it with cold-brew Ethiopian coffee from Mystical Coffee, out of Dallas. The coffee adds notes to the aroma, as well as amplifies the nutty and chocolate flavors in the beer. It's a hearty 6 percent ABV with few hops, coming in at 33 IBUs.

Wild Manimal

Lakewood Brewing Co. is exploring its wild side with this special release, a wild red hoppy farmhouse ale brewed with Brettanomyces. The style says it all in terms what to expect in taste, but know this one is also a heavy hitter at nearly 9 percent ABV and will only be on tap during NTX Beer Week.

Noble Rey collabs

New to North Texas brewery Noble Rey Brewing Co. teamed up with several other operations locally to brew a series of collaboration beers for NTX Beer Week. All will debut at parties at the brewery in Dallas Design District. The lineup includes a black rye IPA brewed with Panther Island Brewing, a kettle-soured IPL (India pale lager) brewed with Lakewood Brewing Co., and a s'mores cream ale with True Vine Brewing Co. out of Tyler.
