Time Out magazine is in love with Fort Worth. Or at least it was when it was drunk.
The culture and travel pub recently released a list of America's best craft beers and two North Texas brews made the cut: Snowmaggedon by Rahr & Sons Brewing Co. and River House Saison from Martin House Brewing Co. Both breweries reside in Fort Worth.
Time Out listed 20 beers, and our homegrown ales came in at No. 7 and No. 13 on the list, respectively.
What Time Out said about Snowmaggedon
"If only most of the country were lucky enough to get Rahr's beers (most of them don't even make it outside Fort Worth, let alone Texas). So when you do come and visit them, ensure you taste and then leave with several bottles of the dark coffee and chocolate-driven Snowmageddon Oatmeal Stout, which pays tribute to the great brewery roof collapse of 2010, as depicted on the label."
Footnotes: Snowmaggedon is a seasonal release, meaning you won't be able to find 'round these parts until February. The beer also won a gold medal at the 2014 World Beer Championships.
What Time Out said about River House
"Right now right across Fort Worth, Texans are taking to Martin House's River House Saison, a brew that's well balanced with floral and citrus notes. Thanks to a bespoke yeast blend created by brewer and cofounder Cody Martin, you'll find hints of pepper and spices."
Footnotes: River House is available year-round in 16-ounce cans and on draft. Martin House also encourages this beer's use in popsciles; see the recipe here.
Other beers on Time Out's list include Ballast Point Habanero Sculpin, Ommegang Hennepin Farmhouse Saison and Alaskan White. It's important to remember that every drinker's palate is different, and many of the "best brews" in America may not appeal to you, but rest assured they are worth a try.
