Cedar Creek Brewery opening restaurant on-site with pimento grit sticks and Frito pie

Cedar Creek Brewery is located in Seven Points, Texas, about 54 miles southeast of Dallas, and when its new taproom opens Memorial Day weekend, it will not only offer beer made in-house, but also food made in-house.

Founder Jim Elliott recently teamed up with Jeana Johnson and Colleen O'Hare, the duo behind Dallas institutions Good 2 Go Taco and Mot Hai Ba, to create a menu for his new Plowboys Cafe, which will be open during taproom hours five days a week.

The brewery will serve sandwiches, supped up hot dogs and burgers alongside Texas staples like Frito pie. There's also an appetizer called Fried Fried featuring pimento cheese-filled grit sticks, fried green beans and pickle fries with Ranch dressing. Plowman's Cafe has healthier fare too, such as a salad and Greek flatbread, as well as a kid's menu. (See full menu below.)

Cedar Creek Brewery opened in 2012 and holds a brewpub license, which is why it can have kitchen on-site and also offer beer to-go in cans or by the growler. The new taproom features 16 draft taps, plus an attached beer garden and patio that can host music. Both the cafe and the taproom are part of a larger building that Cedar Creek Brewery recently took over.

"There's rich history in that building. It used to be a big country western honky tonk. There was even a movie filmed here," Elliott said.

The new location is larger than Cedar Creek's original space and could allow the brewery to quadruple its annual capacity, Elliott added.
