Selena Gomez reportedly one-upped Beyonce over the weekend

The queens of Instagram are both Texans, but it's our resident Grand Prairie superstar that just stole a new jewel for her crown.

At least, that's what everyone else on the internet is saying. Here's what we know: On July 23 (the day she turned 26-years-old), Selena Gomez posted an Instagram gallery featuring seven photos of her birthday celebration.

That post earned one million likes in a mere 13 minutes, which is kind of fast.

As of this writing, the post has more than nine million likes, and it's likely to climb at least a little higher. After all, the singer/actress has 139 million followers on Instagram, so there are plenty of opportunities for more people to see the post.

Or with:

"Another year down. Thank you for all the bday love," Gomez's post says. "I couldn't be more appreciative of you and my best friends for celebrating with me. I love you guys like crazy! God bless!"

As impressive as the feat is on its own, many pop culture outlets (including Elle and E! Online) are reporting that this breaks the record for "fastest to one million likes," which was previously held by Houston-born Beyonce. Where this gets squishy, however, is that there seems to be no governing body for the record in question, and nobody seems to actually know what Beyonce's former record supposedly was.

Elle points out that Beyonce's pregnancy announcement post, which is one of the most-liked Instagram posts of all time, garnered 6.4 million likes "in only a couple hours," which is indeed incredible. My post about how adorable my pet rabbit is only got 27 likes in almost a year, so I guess Beyonce is kind of popular.

But Instagram is known Gomez territory. She has been dominating the platform for years, and however squishy the numbers might be on this "record-breaking" post, she clearly shows no signs of stopping.
