Welcome to a tongue-in-cheek, but sometimes super serious column documenting adventures with spirits and cocktails when out and about or from the comfort of my own home. Let's discover new things together!

Spring is upon us and I don't know about you, but my social media feeds are full of photos from friends and family spending spring break at Disney World. This brings to mind my last visit to the wonderful world of Disney and my unique discovery in Norway at Disney's Epcot Theme Park.

In fact, the photo next to my byline was snapped right before I had my very first taste of Linie Aquavit

Palate prep: Test scotch flavors with Drambuie before diving into the real stuff

I was at the beginning of my quest to drink around the World Showcase (this is a fantastic story for another time) and, admittedly, I had already overdone it in Mexico. Norway was my second stop and, as I staggered into the Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe, I paused to learn about all about the beverage I was about to imbibe. Just kidding! I was handed aquavit in a shot glass and I took it immediately because I didn't want to look lame in front of the authentic Norwegian Disney cast members. It was only later, when I was home, that I decided re-visit and appreciate the spirit.

Aquavit is a Norweigian liquor distilled from potatoes and flavored with herbs and spices including caraway, aniseed, fennel, coriander and dill. Despite these savory spices, it also has a slightly sweet taste because it's aged in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks, which give it a rich flavor from the oak. There are also hints of orange peel and vanilla.

Linie recommends you sip aquavit at room temperature, ideally in a tulip-shaped glass to enhance the aromas. (Thanks for withholding this information and glassware, authentic Norweigan Disney cast members.) Some people like to use aquavit in place of vodka or gin in cocktails too!

Interestingly (and dramatically!), Linie Aquavit is aged at sea on ships that carry the casks across the equator twice.

Each bottle of Linie Aquavit has a date on it and, with that information, you can view the journey it took at sea on the Linie website

You can get Linie Aquavit in the D-FW area at Goody Goody Liquor for $24.99, but check the website first because not all locations have it at any given time. Skål (this means "cheers" in Norwegian)!

Booze News Insider Rachel Hart believes in the importance of expanding one's happy hour and nightcap repertoire beyond a glass of wine (although, she'll happily take one). She loves to discover creative quality spirits and cocktails and hopes you'll go on the journey with her.
