Deal alert: Chili's offers $5 margs, practically free chips and salsa Oct. 21

A group of diners walks into a restaurant. Craving free dessert or apps, they pretend it's someone's birthday. We've all been there, right?

Well, no need to pretend this Wednesday. Chili's Grill and Bar is celebrating its Presidente Margarita's birthday to the tune of customer discounts.

The marg, which debuted on Oct. 21, 1994, will be available for $5 all day Wednesday, and to sweeten the deal, Chili's is throwing in $0.21 chips and salsa. That's 21 cents for the Presidente's 21st b-day, get it? (The Presidente Margarita is regularly $7.33.)

Chili's turned 40 years old in the spring, meaning the Presidente has been a staple for more than half of the company's existence. Made with Sauza Conmemorativo añejo tequila, Patron Citronage orange liqueur and Presidente Brandy, it's the chain's bestseller on the drink menu.

Every year, Chili's sells 135,000 gallons of the Presidente Margarita, enough to fill 13 swimming pools, according to parent company Brinker International. About 95 percent of people order it with salt.

If tequila isn't your thing, we also recommend the Deep Eddy Texas Lemonade, which also pairs well with cheap chips and salsa.
