We sometimes hear that “any press is good press,” and that’s certainly the case for Lakewood Brewing Co.'s Hopochondria Session IPA.
The local craft beer community was up in arms after D Magazine's SideDish blog published "reviews" of local session IPAs from a "panel" of "human beings" with "taste buds." Lakewood's brew was one of the least favorable, according to the panel. The pungent taste even led one panelist to ask:
“Did you steal a tube sock from a hobo and strain this beer through it?”
The backlash for such a poorly written article, featuring people who seemingly know beer buzz words but nothing about beer, has been palpable. Lakewood's founder Wim Bens retorted quickly, making light of the hobo sock claims -- the brewery is taking D Magazine's foot-in-mouth and raising money to put food in mouths.
