New owners of Stan's Blue Note drop $60,000 on renovation, promise it's still a dive bar

Stan's Blue Note on Greenville Avenue in Dallas is a jovial place -- the kind of place where you spill a little beer hugging a friend who just walked in the door. For the decades it's been open in Dallas, nobody seemed to mind the sticky floors.

Stan's is surely a little cleaner now, after a $60,000 renovation. But its new owners, who took control April 1, claim they want Stan's to stay "just as it is."

Some of the facelifts to the bar include new restrooms and a fenced-in back patio with an arbor. An arbor: That's a fancy word for Stan's.

The new owners are involved in restaurants and bars you might be familiar with: Dick's Last Resort in Dallas, Dodie's Cajun Diner at The Harbor in Rockwall, and Table 13 in Addison.

The menu also got a facelift, says Mike McRae, president of Fun For All Management, LLC, in a statement. "Food was a secondary thought," he says, "but now, more and more people will come back for the quality of the food -- not just for the beer."

The bar continues to be a home for adult kickball leagues and sports watching.

They new owners got involved in the legendary Stan's because McRae says it's "the best dive sports bar I've ever been in. It's like you've got four cool cars in the garage, but the one you really want to drive is the old '67 GTO, like Stan's Blue Note."

McRae reiterates in a statement that Stan's is the same old place: "We took a dive sports bar with a great history and we're giving it a refresher, but nothing about its character will change," he said.
