5 ways to celebrate National Tequila Day in D-FW

One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor-ed. That might be you on National Tequila Day on Friday, July 24.

(If so, grab a cab home. Safety first.)

From prickly pear sweet to reposado heat, the Tex-Mexiest of bars and restaurants will be celebrating with special prices on tequila sips, shots and limited-time only creations. Grab a lime and make some time to celebrate; it's practically a Texas state holiday.

Get to Plano's Mexican Sugar to partake in a week-long celebration that ends Sunday, June 26. Every day features a unique type of tequila for $9, perfect for tequila experts or anyone wanting to try something new. On Thursday you can try Siembra Reposado. The rest of the weekend ushers in a line of anejos: Casamigos Anejo on Friday, Corralejo Anjeo on Saturday and Dulce Vida Anejo on Sunday.

Then there's the prickly pear trend happening all over town. Jump on it at  Savor Gastropub at Klyde Warren Park in Dallas. The Prickly Pear Margarita ($12) starts with a prickly pear, pureed, joined by Demerara, Avión Reposado, mezcal and a squeeze of lemon juice.

Or you could go to newish Plano restaurant Hickory by Kent Rathbun for a simple little cocktail called "Cactus Juice" ($9) featuring prickly pear nectar, Avión Reposado, triple sec and a little lime for good measure.

Sushi lovers, have your sushi and tequila, too, at Kenichi, where the "Avión Pearadise" ($13) packs a pop from the prickly pear simple syrup mixed with more Avión Silver, Cointreau and lime juice.

In the mood for something more tried and true? There's always On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina, which offers its famous house margaritas for $2 or Lunazul Reposado Tequila shots for $2 on Friday and Saturday, all day long. That's a steal of a deal, especially if you can eat your way through a basket or two of the complimentary chips and salsa.
