Reba McEntire loves being a grandmother, she says. She's got a handful of grandkids, including little River Rose, the daughter of North Texas singer Kelly Clarkson and McEntire's stepson Brandon Blackstock.
But River intially seemed to be petrified of McEntire, the singer told us on the evening of the Academy of Country Music Awards.
"Every time I'd look at River, she'd start crying. And I'm talking squalling," McEntire said. "I'd walk up to her and say 'Hey River, whatcha doin?' And she'd break out and bawl."
Around Christmastime, McEntire seemed determined to get in River's good graces, so she put River in her arms at feeding time and held the bottle.
Voilà. "And we've been friends ever since," she says.
McEntire performed at the ACM Awards at AT&T Stadium on Sunday night and received a milestone award for most awarded ACM female vocalist of the year.
In an interview with the media, McEntire also mentioned that when she visits Texas, she loves Tex-Mex, steaks and barbecue. She enjoyed a meal at Cool River and visited the Four Seasons Resort & Club Dallas at Las Colinas while in town, she says.
