Loretta Lynn and Alabama receive special ACM awards, but they won't get big moments at the CBS show

A lot can be packed into a televised awards ceremony, often to the detriment of local news and late-night programs that are forced to start later. But the 50th Academy of Country Music Awards, broadcasting from AT&T Stadium on Sunday, April 19, is already trying to keep its production from going into overtime.

The ACMs announced a list of "off-camera award winners" earlier today with the disclaimer that most of them won't be mentioned during the televised ceremony. Among them are several behind-the-scenes prizes and industry kudos that understandably wouldn't hold that much interest for the national TV audience. But there are a couple of special awards we would have liked to see make it to the broadcast.

Legendary artist (and one of the best songwriters ever) Loretta Lynn has received the Crystal Milestone Award, "given to an artist or industry leader to commemorate a specific, remarkable achievement." In Lynn's case, it's her 50th anniversary in country music. To me, that's cause for an extended segment in which country luminaries old and young pay tribute.

Same goes for the Career Achievement Award being presented to Alabama, a group whose influence has been felt heavily over the last few years. They're one of the few old-school country groups that the new class of "bros" name-drop constantly. And they can turn any song into a multi-part jam.

While it's unclear whether Lynn and Alabama will get any sort of mentions on the 19th, ACM reps tell us they'll be feted at a special, albeit non-televised ACM Honors event scheduled for September. Here's hoping award-show planners will find a way to at least give these legends a shoutout. I mean, if there's room for Christina Aguilera and Nick Jonas ...

More current stars Luke Bryan and Eric Church are also receiving off-camera prizes - the Gene Weed Special Achievement Award and the Jim Reeves International Award, respectively. But both are expected to be in the spotlight for other reasons during the TV ceremony.
