Downtown Dallas to host total solar eclipse viewing events on April 8

From a video projection event at Pegasus Plaza to downtown watch parties, total solar eclipse frenzy is coming to the heart of Dallas.

A host of eclipse merriment is planned for April 5-8 in downtown Dallas. Here’s a guide to watch parties and other happenings around downtown. See individual websites for schedule changes and other updates, and find more eclipse events here.

VIDEO ART NIGHT WITH AURORA

FREE Aurora, the public arts group known for staging events around the city that meld technology and the arts, will light up Pegasus Plaza with a showcase of video artworks by Texas artists. The evening includes video projections (starting at sunset), along with live music, a marketplace, and refreshments. Downtown Dallas, Inc. is also presenting a Spring Solar Stroll on April 6 and Wellness Day sessions with goat yoga and cycling classes on April 7. Details are still pending on both events.

WATCH PARTY AT MAIN STREET GARDEN

Downtown Dallas Inc. and The Dallas Morning News co-host a watch party in the park. The event will feature live music, food trucks, family-friendly activities, shopping, an art installation, photo booth, a cash bar and complimentary eclipse glasses while they last.

GREAT NORTH AMERICAN ECLIPSE AT KLYDE WARREN PARK

FREE The downtown Dallas deck park event will feature many family-friendly activities including eclipse insights from a panel of Carnegie Institution for Science astronomers, the Perot Museum’s interactive Tech Truck and complimentary eclipse-viewing glasses. The Central Standard Band will perform live on the outdoor stage.

GREAT NORTH AMERICAN ECLIPSE (SOLD OUT)

The Perot Museum of Nature and Science is partnering with the Carnegie Institution for Science to present a fun and safe day of eclipse viewing at the Perot and Klyde Warren Park. There will be more than 20 astronomers at the event, which will include STEM activities, games and live music. Eclipse glasses will be provided while they last. Guests are invited to explore the museum’s exhibits. At the park, visitors can explore the Perot’s interactive Tech Truck and hear tunes from the Central Standard Band. At both venues, food will be available from food trucks or guests can bring a picnic. Admission to park events are free.

TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE ARTS

FREE A watch party in the Dallas Arts District features the Revelers Hall Band marching through Sammons Park and live music on stage at 1 p.m. Eclipse glasses, courtesy of AT&T Performing Arts Center, are complimentary while supplies last.

WATCH PARTY AT REUNION TOWER

FREE A free watch party on the lawn at the base of Reunion Tower will feature food vendors and free solar eclipse glasses to the first 1,000 guests. Complimentary vouchers will be given to attendees who want to visit the Geo-Deck observation deck after the eclipse.

SOLAR ECLIPSE LUNCH AT MONARCH

Monarch, the wood-fired modern Italian restaurant atop the National building in downtown Dallas, hosts a lunch and viewing party. After a three-course lunch at noon, guests can move to Kessaku on the 50th floor to witness the solar event.

TOTAL ECLIPSE AT AT&T DISCOVERY DISTRICT

FREE See NASA’s live feed on the giant video wall. Hear a panel discussion featuring speakers from the AT&T meteorology team and representatives from NASA and The Achievery online academy. There’ll be eclipse glasses for the first 4,000 guests, eclipse-themed food and drinks at District restaurants and cool graphics streaming on the video board before and after the big event.

SOLAR ECLIPSE AT THE TRINITY RIVER

FREE This family-friendly event hosted by the nonprofit Trinity Park Conservancy will aim to celebrate the eclipse in a fun and educational way. Astronomy experts will be on hand to explain the rare solar event, and there will be hands-on educational activities, games and more. A DJ will play music, and free eclipse glasses will be available for the first 3,000 visitors.
