Letters to the Editor — Bland Middle School eighth graders thank their teachers

Students write about teachers they admire as they leave middle school for high school.

Editor’s note: Bland Middle School eighth graders wrote letters to the editor to recognize their teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week.

Won’t forget teachers, coach

I’m leaving the school I’ve been in for my entire life and it just so happens that this week is Teacher Appreciation Week. So, I want to show my appreciation to my favorite teachers, Mrs. Pendergrass, Mrs. Womack, Mrs. Curry and my coach, Coach Spurlock. They have all been so important to me and have helped me grow in so many ways. They always knew how to help me get through things.

Mrs. Pendergrass helped by being supportive. Mrs. Womack helped me by being there for me in the toughest of times. Mrs. Curry helped me by always making work fun and was always friendly.

Coach Spurlock has always made me try my hardest no matter what and he’s helped me become the player I am today. He taught me how to support my teammates and how to run difficult plays.

Showing us how to learn

I would like to recognize my teacher, Mrs. Lambert. You are ever kind and always friendly to students. You make sure that we learn from our mistakes and get it the next time, and you make sure that we keep learning more to be ready for high school. You are the best teacher in this school.

Mentorship shaped me

I‘m leaving Bland Middle School, where I’ve been for my entire life, and it just so happens that this week is Teacher Appreciation Week. I want to take a moment to appreciate my favorite coach, Coach Black. She has truly been a pillar of strength and inspiration in my athletic journey.

She has helped me so much with basketball and she pushes me to go hard each day because she has higher expectations for me than other people. Her mentorship has shaped me into a better athlete and a better person. She didn’t just teach me skills of the game but the values of discipline, perseverance and teamwork.

Teaching leadership

It’s Happy Teacher Appreciation Week. I have been to the same school, Bland Elementary and Bland Middle School, for my whole life. I will be moving on to high school. I will miss this place dearly. And will especially miss some of my favorite teachers. They are Mrs. Soto, Mrs. Flowers and Mrs. Curry. These teachers showed me how to be a leader and to treat everyone equally.

Everlasting impacts

Leaving Bland Middle School this year, I am thinking about everything that I won’t have next year. I might not be with my friends as much, the work will be harder, but especially I won’t see my favorite elementary and middle school teachers anymore. The teachers who have been with me through highs and lows. They taught me everything I know today. Without my teachers, I would be like a flat basketball in a game.

I had multiple teachers I was close with, but the ones I want to mention the most are my third grade teacher Mrs. Pendergrass, my fifth grade teacher Mrs. Flowers, my math teacher Coach Godwin, and finally my eighth grade math teacher, Mr. Goen (Mr. G).

I will never forget the impacts they have had on my life. I have learned so much and they don’t even know how much they have helped. They made learning fun and understandable. When people talk about amazing teachers, those teachers are the ones who fit the definition. I will always remember, y’all.

P.S. You, too, Mrs. Anderson!

Pushing toward better

I have been thinking about the teachers who have helped me the most. My teacher Mrs. Womack has helped me throughout my sixth grade year to get me prepared for the STAAR test. She is the only reason why I passed that year and I am so grateful for her.

I also want to thank my fifth grade math teacher, Mrs. Flowers. She always pushed me to do better in her class. When I was in fifth grade, it was when COVID was really bad and I missed a lot of school. I got really behind, but that didn’t stop Mrs. Flowers from making sure that I passed her class.

I am going to miss seeing Mrs. Flowers and Mrs. Womack but I will never forget them and all they did to help me grow as a student.

Almost like family

I would like to thank my fifth grade math teacher, Mrs. Flowers, because she really helped me and understood me when I was going through family problems. It got to the point where I almost saw her as part of my family. So this is the reason I thank her for being part of my life.

Grateful for role model

My fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Curry, is whom I give my appreciation to because she was the main reason I wanted to come to school. She would make her work fun and enjoyable for the whole class. When she was my teacher, she taught me not just reading and English but how to not get so angry in aggravating situations. That’s why I am so grateful for her being my teacher and a role model for me.
