Former John Paul II five-star recruit Liam McNeely commits to UConn

The McDonald’s All-American and five-star recruit will be headed to Storrs to play for the back-to-back national champions.

Former John Paul II and Richardson Pearce five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American Liam McNeely announced his commitment to UConn on Twitter/X Friday afternoon.

McNeely spent his freshman year at Richardson Pearce and his sophomore year at John Paul II before transferring to Florida’s Montverde Academy for the remainder of his high school career.

The 6-foot 8-inch senior joins the back-to-back national champions in Storrs, Conn. after averaging 12.5 points per game on a Montverde team this past year that featured a litany of top-rated recruits including the top-rated recruit in the class of 2024 Cooper Flagg. McNeely was the sixth-ranked player on ESPN’s class of 2024 recruiting rankings.

McNeely was one of two Dallas-area basketball products to be named to this past year’s McDonald’s All-American game. Texas signee and Lake Highlands product Tre Johnson joined McNeely in the annual high school all-star game.
